The Zoological Society of New Jersey partnered with L’Oreal, the world’s leading cosmetics brand, to carry out an environmental clean-up around Essex County South Mountain Recreation Complex.
Over 50 L’Oreal employees volunteered for a day of service with Essex County Turtle Back Zoo. At first glance, many volunteers commented on the pristine condition of the reservoir and the surrounding land. There was no trash in sight, but appearances were deceiving.
Two teams armed with skimmers, shovels, and trash pickers began to scour the area in which volunteers began finding trash that was hidden among the aquatic plants, under overgrown vegetation, and at the reservoir’s edge. Both teams collected an astonishing 250 lbs worth of trash. Finds ranged from bottle caps to to-go food containers.
Zoo Team Go helps clean up the environment and educate volunteers to consider making other consumer choices.
