Zoo Team Go partnered with Carmax and Jenkinson’s Aquarium to participate in a beach clean-up at Point Pleasant Beach.
Armed with buckets, gloves, and grabber tools, volunteers scoured the beach looking for trash. The group was able to find many different types of waste with the most prominent being single use plastics. Unfortunately, plastics, such as bottle caps, plastic bags, and straws, were a common find during the clean up. Adding to the haul, volunteers found large ocean debris like wooden planks and even parts of a boat along the shoreline. In total, our volunteers were able to collect 562 pounds of trash!
Clean-ups such as this outing don’t just have an aesthetic value, they also improve the health of our environment. Plastics can be carried into our ocean, polluting our waters with microplastics and macroplastics. These pose health risks for marine life, our planet’s ecosystems, and people. By making changes to clean up our ecosystems we are able to help not just our own environment, but the world as well.
Zoo Team Go helps clean up the environment and educate volunteers to consider making informed consumer choices.
