All Turtle Back Zoo membership purchases aid the Zoological Society of New Jersey’s commitment to conservation by contributing to our global fund, which we utilize to support a variety of conservation projects worldwide. Just in time for Arbor Day, the Zoological Society of New Jersey is proud to introduce an important new initiative as part of our commitment to conservation, a new way in which membership purchases make a positive impact on the environment – the Turtle Back Zoo Tree Initiative.
Through the help of both local and international partners, the Turtle Back Zoo Tree Initiative works to have trees planted both near and far. With each membership purchase and renewal, one tree will be planted in a high-need area abroad, and a matching financial commitment will be made to enable planting another tree in the greater Essex County area. Through their dedication to planting trees, these groups improve the quality of the air we breathe, reduce the risk of flooding and landslides, and provide homes to hundreds of different species of insects, fungi, moss, mammals, and plants[1]. Your membership purchase will enable the Turtle Back Zoo Tree Initiative to improve the environment both locally in New Jersey and around the world.
